Enforcement in general refers to law enforcement agencies and the judicial system. All enforcement agencies and entities must be on board with and supportive of the objective of the environmental prevention project, within the context of their respective responsibilities. Enforcement must be consistent in applying the existing policies and the judicial system must use the tools given them to consistently apply consequences for individuals not obeying existing policies.
In turn, the community must support local, state, tribal and federal enforcement agencies, and the judicial system through strategic partnerships to ensure enforcement of policies. When a policy or law is engrained in the community’s norms and standards, self-enforcement can be observed.
